This was the case in the concert at hand. The three programmed works (from the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries) brilliantly handle the large orchestra. In recent years, we have followed Teresa Catal\u00e1n in her creative process, which has currently reached a splendid mastery of the large orchestral form. Her <i data-path-to-node=\"5\" data-index-in-node=\"511\">\u201cDanza de la princesa\u201d<\/i>, conceived as a ballet, already surprised us very favorably at its premiere, and we also saw it performed with the intimate choreography of Jean-Philippe Dury; therefore, it already has a history, and today, heard anew, it consolidates itself and stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the great repertoire. Possessing a great timbral richness and a flowing orchestration, Perry So's version was frankly convincing, drawing out the magnificent contrast in the relationship between the solos and the <i data-path-to-node=\"5\" data-index-in-node=\"1027\">tutti<\/i> with a brilliant result.<\/p>\n            <\/div>\r\n    \r\n            <div post_id=\"1131\" itemcount=\"1\"  header_id=\"header-1779355647989\" id=\"header-1779355647989\" style=\"\" class=\"accordions-head head1779355647989 border-round\" toggle-text=\"\" main-text=\"Xabier Armend\u00e1riz DIARIO DE NAVARRA. In front of the chamber choir, Teresa does not shy away from the irruption of the freest and most innovative elements (as in the beginning), nor from the harmonic fabric that interweaves the voices. <em data-start=\"492\" data-end=\"505\">Nere maitia<\/em> bursts forth with a harsh soprano entrance (perhaps representing birth), which jolts us and puts us on alert. Then everything calms down, always within that magma of harmonic clashes that, nonetheless, sounds very clear, even though one can sense how tricky it must be for the choir to sustain. The choir responds very well, and manages to draw us into that atmosphere where lyricism, melodic phrasing, and so on coexist\u2014but without losing the sense of innovation, in her full style. Her concerto for flute and orchestra, <em data-start=\"161\" data-end=\"181\">El canto de Atenea<\/em>, premiered at Baluarte in Pamplona in October 2021, is a work of great beauty. She was awarded the National Music Prize in 2017 and the Pr\u00edncipe de Viana Prize in 2021. In 2024, she will premiere <em data-start=\"378\" data-end=\"384\">Azul<\/em> with the National Orchestra. A student of, among others, Ram\u00f3n Barce, Agust\u00edn Gonz\u00e1lez Acilu, Franco Donatoni, George Benjamin, and Luigi Nono, her talent led her to follow a highly personal path, beginning with a softened form of atonalism and a remarkable gift for coloring musical textures. She completely abandones virtuosity to create balanced textures and sonorities.\u00a0\u00a0 Her style allows her to tap into the subtle delicacy offered by the Prelude no. 4 of Chopin to create paraphrases or express complete serenity with the Elegies, with notes that appear almost naked, with sonorities that are rarely immersed in forte.
